Frequently asked questions
What PD Tracker does, what it doesn't, and exactly how your data is handled.
This isn't medical advice. PD Tracker is a self-tracking diary, not a diagnostic or treatment tool. It doesn't replace your neurologist, your care team, or your own judgment — always follow the guidance of your prescribing doctor, especially around medication timing and dosage.
What this is
What is PD Tracker?
A private, free diary for logging Parkinson's symptoms, medications, meals, and falls — built to make appointment prep easier without asking you to create an account or hand data to a company.
Who is it for?
People living with Parkinson's, and the caregivers or family members who help track their day-to-day symptoms and medication timing.
Is PD Tracker affiliated with APDA, StrivePD, Parky, or any hospital or pharmaceutical company?
No. PD Tracker is an independent, unaffiliated project. It isn't endorsed by or connected to the American Parkinson Disease Association, Rune Labs, h2o Therapeutics, or any other organization.
How is this different from apps like StrivePD or Parky?
Those apps pair with an Apple Watch to passively measure tremor and dyskinesia — real clinical data collected without you doing anything, and both are FDA-cleared for that. PD Tracker doesn't do that; everything here is self-reported, and there's no wearable integration.
What PD Tracker does instead is skip the account entirely — nothing you log is ever stored anywhere but this device. If you want passive, clinically validated tracking, those apps do something PD Tracker structurally can't. If you'd rather not hand a health app your data to get a simple diary, that's what this is for.
Is PD Tracker free?
Yes, right now the core tracker is free to use, with no ads.
Privacy & your data
Do I need to create an account?
No. There's no login, no password, and no email address required — just open the app and start logging.
Where is my data actually stored?
In your browser, on this device only, using a standard web storage feature called localStorage. Nothing you type is ever sent to a server — there isn't one. PD Tracker has no backend at all.
If I close the app and restart my computer, will my data still be there?
Yes. Closing the browser or shutting down your computer doesn't erase it — the same as any file saved to disk. Opening the same browser on the same device later will show everything exactly as you left it, with no login step.
Does my data sync between devices, or between browsers on the same device?
No. Each browser on each device keeps its own separate copy. Switching from Chrome to Safari on the same phone, or opening the app on a different computer, starts with an empty tracker. Use Export and Import (in Settings) to move your data yourself.
What happens if I clear my browser's cookies or site data?
Your tracker data is very likely gone. Most browsers bundle localStorage in with "clear cookies and site data" even though people usually only mean to sign out of things — Chrome's "Cookies and other site data," Safari's "Clear History and Website Data," and Firefox's "Cookies and Site Data" all wipe it. Export a backup first if you're about to do this.
What if I use a private or incognito window?
Anything logged in a private window is discarded the moment that window closes — this is how every browser's private mode is designed to work, not something specific to PD Tracker. Use a normal window for anything you want to keep.
I use DuckDuckGo Browser — will its Fire Button or auto-clear settings delete my data?
Yes, if you use them. DuckDuckGo's Fire Button clears all site data on demand, and its "automatically clear all tabs and data" setting does the same thing every time you close the app. If you rely on either of these, export a backup regularly, or turn on the app's built-in backup reminder in Settings.
Can I back up my data?
Yes — Settings → Export My Data (JSON) downloads everything as a file you can keep anywhere. The app can also remind you to do this periodically; that's on by default and adjustable in Settings.
How do I move my data to a new device or browser?
Export from the old browser (Settings → Export My Data), then open PD Tracker in the new browser and use Settings → Import Data to load that file. Importing replaces whatever is already there, so it'll ask you to confirm first.
Do you track me, or use analytics?
Only page visits, and only in aggregate. This site uses Cloudflare Web Analytics, which counts how many people open each page and roughly which country they came from. It sets no cookies, stores nothing on your device, doesn't fingerprint you, and doesn't follow you to other sites.
Nothing you log in the tracker is included — not your symptoms, medications, meals, notes, or the name you gave your tracker. Those never leave your device at all, so there is nothing for analytics to collect. The only thing measured is that a page was opened.
This tells me whether anyone is finding the site. It can't tell me whether you use the tracker, what you logged, or whether you came back — and that's deliberate.
I want to stop using it — can I delete everything?
Yes — Settings → Clear All Data permanently erases everything on this device. If you have any entries logged, it'll offer to export a backup first, since this can't be undone.
Using the app
Do I have to set up every medication myself?
Yes — there's a dropdown of common Parkinson's medications by drug class to save you typing the name, but doses and times are always entered by you, from your own prescription. The app never suggests a dose or schedule.
Can a patient and a caregiver both use it?
There's no separate login for each person — it's one shared tracker per browser. Anyone using that browser on that device can see and log entries. If a patient and caregiver both want to log from their own phones, each would need to export and import data to keep them in sync manually, since there's no automatic sharing.
Does it send reminders or notifications to take medication?
No. PD Tracker is a logging tool, not a reminder app — it won't alert you when a dose is due. If reminders are what you need most, a dedicated medication-reminder app is a better fit for that specific job.
Does it use my location, camera, or microphone?
No. PD Tracker doesn't request or use any device permissions like these.
Can I print or export something to bring to my doctor?
Yes — the Print tab generates a clean report for a date range you choose, ready to print or save as a PDF.
Does it work without an internet connection?
Yes, once you've opened it at least once. After that first visit the app is stored on your device, so it opens and logs entries with no connection at all — on a plane, in a basement, or anywhere with no signal.
Your entries were never sent anywhere to begin with, so nothing is waiting to sync when you reconnect. Going online again only checks whether a newer version of the app is available.
Can I install it like a real app?
Yes. In Safari on iPhone or iPad, tap Share then "Add to Home Screen." In Chrome on Android or desktop, look for the install icon in the address bar or "Install" in the menu. It then opens in its own window without browser tabs or an address bar. Your data stays exactly where it was — installing doesn't move or copy it.
